The Safe and Well home checks are comprehensive assessments carried out by trained fire service personnel. During these visits, the fire department thoroughly inspect the clients’ homes for common fire risks, such as faulty wiring, overloaded electrical sockets, and the proper storage of flammable materials. They also check that smoke alarms are installed and functioning correctly, replacing batteries, or installing new alarms where necessary.
In addition to fire safety, these checks cover other aspects of home safety and health. The fire department provides advice on fall prevention, ensuring that the living environment is free from tripping hazards and that there is suitable lighting in key areas. They also discuss general health and well-being topics, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle and accessing local community support services.
